There are many effective flu treatments in homeopathy. These are essential remedies that should be known about and kept in your first aid kit.
The incubation phase lasts between 18 and 36 hours and, in some cases, up to three days. The symptoms that appear during this phase are general malaise, sudden cold, coughs, headaches, eye pain, muscular pain and abdominal spasmodic pains.
The most important medications for this phase are:
Anas barbarie 200K: Take one dose as soon as the first symptoms appear and another dose within 24 hours. Continue to take two doses a day for the next two days, when the start of the flu is sudden and there is fever with facial congestion.
Arnica montana 9C: Take five granules every 2 hours during 2 days. Arnica is used when there is fever that causes the face to become hot, but the nose and the rest of the body to stay cold. Pins and needles, thirst and sometimes nausea are associated symptoms.
Baptisia tictoria 9C: Take 5 granules every 2 hours for 2 days. Baptisia is useful when there are pins and needles, eye pain and foul-smelling diarrhoea with stomach pain.
Nux vomica 9C: Take 5 granules every 2 hours for 2 days. It is recommended when there is fever with shivers. The patient feels pins and needles, back pains and stomach cramps.
Sulfur 9C: Take one dose if head congestion is the dominating symptom. It is also used for head fever and dry, hot skin.
The second phase: Fever, flu and disturbances in the general condition
The temperature rises to 39C and disappears after 2 to 3 days. At times it can last up to a week. A temperature over 41C is rare.
The most important medicines in this phase:
Aconitum napellus 9C: Take 5 granules every half hour up to 2 hours. The start of the fever is sudden and intense.
Belladonna 9C: Take 5 granules every hour at the start of the fever and then each time the temperature rises. The belladonna fever is sudden, intense and changeable. The patient sweats in the facial area and fluctuates between lethargy and restlessness.
Stramonium 9C: The temperature reaches a plateau and the patient doesn’t sweat. Deliriums and hallucinations appear,
Eupatorium perfoliatum 9C: Take when there is eye pain, a dry cough and pins and needles together with severe pain in the limbs.
Gelsemium sempervirens 9C: Take when the extremities feel heavy, when there are tremors and head congestion.
Rhus toxicodendron 9C: Take when the patient shivers with every movement and upon waking, pins and needles that feel better with movement and when there are cold sores.
It is important to know that the flu virus does not affect the gastrointestinal tract; there is no such thing as “intestinal flu”. The side effects of the flu are anorexia, nausea and constipation. The flu virus can sometimes trigger a lung and respiratory disease, coughs, expectoration and dryness in the mucous membranes.
Remedies that are useful in this instance
Bryonia 9C: Take 5 granules every 2 hours when the cough is long-lasting and painful.
Ferrum phosphoricum 9C: Take 5 granules three times a day when the fever is moderate and progressive. Ferrum phosphoricum is prescribed in inflamed ear drums and bronchial tubes, dry coughs and pain behind the sternum.
All dosage suggestions are examples. (It’s best to contact a homeopath for dosage guidelines.)
