Obtain relief from sinus pressure and sinus infection allergies with homeopathic remedies. Everyone knows the discomfort of sinusitis, bronchitis symptoms, and the common cold, which produces pressure and pain in the face and upper respiratory tract. Several hundred years of anecdotal evidence shows the efficacy of homeopathy to relieve sinus pressure and resolve allergies and sinusitis.
Your sinuses are located in your face and are cavities in the bones of the forehead and cheeks that, under normal circumstances, are filled with air. During a sinus infection, the membranes swell and mucous is produced as a protective agent against pathogens. If the airway to your sinuses is trapped, pressure builds up causing pain. A true sinus infection occurs when bacteria gets trapped in the mucus, forming a yellow or greenish-colored discharge. A variety of homeopathic remedies are available to treat sinus infections from allergies and relieve sinus pressure.
Homeopathic Remedies for Allergies or Sinus Infection
Pulsatilla is indicated for allergies and sinusitis with thick, yellow discharge. This remedy should provide relief from sinus pressure if the pains in the sinuses are worse at night, in a warm room, when stooping or when raising the eyes upward. It relieves sinus pressure and pain in the forehead, with a feeling of congestion and tightness. Digestive symptoms may accompany the allergy or sinusitis as well as a headache, nausea and a desire for cold creamy foods such as ice cream. The patient may be moody and teary-eyed, wanting constant company. A combination of these symptoms indicates the need for Pulsatilla.
Kali Bichromicum (Kali Bich) is indicated if the sinus discharge becomes dark greenish, thick, rubbery and stringy. Kali Bich helps where the allergy and sinusitis pain is felt above the root of the nose, or in the forehead over one eye. Kali Bich is indicated when the symptoms start in the morning, get worse in the middle of the day and then disappear by late afternoon. Other signs pointing to the need for this remedy are a headache in the forehead in small localized spots rather than feeling pain in the entire forehead, and sinus pain made worse by exposure to cold weather.
Silica is indicated for chronic allergy and sinus pressure or long term sinus infections that have not responded to other remedies. Sinus aches and pains are improved by applying pressure to the forehead or face. You may observe the person pressing her fingertips firmly into the painful area for relief from sinus pressure. Silica is also indicated when the pain is made better by warm applications, such as a warm heating pad or moist hot pack. Silica will help if the person has an earache at the same time as the sinus infection; and is especially effective if the right ear is involved. The patient is aggravated by noise, movement and talking during the illness.
Spegilia is indicated for allergy or sinus infection if the onset of symptoms occurred after exposure to cold, wet weather. The remedy may help when sinus facial pains are worsened from bending the head forward, warm applications, exposure to light, motion and noise. The sinus pressure and pains indicating the need for Speglia are usually felt more acutely on the left side of the face, cheek and forehead. Symptoms are relieved with cold applications like a washcloth or cold pack.
